ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Golf has two Bulldogs in the top 10 after the first day of the French Broad Collegiate Invitational on Monday (Oct. 30) at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove.
Asheville sits in seventh as a team after rounds of 305 and 308, totaling 613 (+41) as a team. Beryl Giletti sits in third place after a -2 69 and a +4 75 on the day, while Madyson Gold is tied for eighth after a +2 73 and a +6 77. Ally Kerr turned in rounds of 84 and 74 (+3), while Hailey Pendleton turned in rounds of 85 and 75 (+4) and Presley Pickron shot rounds of 80 (+9) and 81 (+10). Phoebe Carles turned in a pair of 83s on the day, while Annabelle Mozingo finished with identical rounds of 84. Amber Capote posted rounds of 78 (+7) and 92 on the day, while Sierra Cardi scored a pair of 89s.
Giletti birdied No. 1, before making two straight pars and a bogey on No. 4. After rebounding with a birdie on No. 5 and a par on No. 6, she wrapped up the front with a birdie on No. 7, a bogey on No. 8 and a par on No. 9. She began the back with four straight pars, before making bogey on No. 14 and pars on the next two holes. She wrapped up her round with two birdies and a par. Giletti's second round began alternating birdie and bogey through the first four holes, before making par on No. 5 and No. 6. After a birdie on No. 7, she made two bogeys to finish the front nine. After a bogey on No. 10, she made par on the next four holes before a bogey on No. 15. She would complete her day with two pars and a bogey through the last three holes.
Gold went even par through the first five holes, before alternating bogey and par to finish out the front nine. After back-to-back bogeys on No. 10 and No. 11, Gold made par on No. 13 before shooting bogey on No. 14. After three straight pars, her first round concluded with a bogey on No. 17 and a par on No. 18. Gold's second round began with three consecutive pars, before making bogey on No. 4 and shooting par on the next three holes. She finished the front nine with a birdie and a par. She began the back with three straight pars, before alternating bogey and double bogey over the next four holes. She finished her day with a birdie on No. 17 and a bogey on No. 18.
The Bulldogs return to the links tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 31) for the final round of tournament play. Play will begin with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start, with the final nine holes being broadcasted on ESPN+ and live results available via the Golf Genius App.
