Women's Soccer Drops Close Conference Match on Saturday

CHARLESTON, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer dropped a close Big South Conference match at Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) by a score of 1-0. Â
The teams went to the break scoreless despite Asheville out-shooting Charleston Southern 7-5 in the half and Charleston Southern edging Asheville in corner kicks 3-2 in the frame.
Charleston Southern would get the only goal of the match in the 60th minute, when Dakota Fielder scored her third of the season off an assist from Fiama Hidalgo. In total in the second half, Asheville out-shot Charleston Southern 12-10, but was unable to find the back of the net. Asheville managed to hit the crossbar twice in the final three minutes, first off a free kick by Julia Hüsch in the 88th minute and then a Shae Hassig header in the 89th minute.
Asheville out-shot Charleston Southern 19-15 in the match, including 7-6 in shots on goal. Taylor Gardner led all players with five shots in the match, while Kaiya Boyd had three and Barrett Eidson and Azalea Mihailovich each had two. Hüsch, Hassig, Ava Bjorkman-Tracy, Jordan Schaetzly, Jasmine Barry and Daysha Chaney each had one shot in the match for Asheville. Gracie Murray (5-5-3) made five saves between the pipes in the contest.
The Bulldogs (7-5-4, 2-4-1 Big South Conference) return home to Greenwood Field for the regular season finale on Wednesday (Oct. 25) to face High Point. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
