ON THE COURT
Asheville got out to a tough start as High Point opened the match with a 7-2 lead and extended its lead by 10 at the media break. The Panthers went on to win the opening frame 25-10.
After High Point took a 3-1 lead, the Bulldogs battled back, tying the score eight times and taking the lead three times before the Panthers entered the media timeout ahead 15-14. Asheville did not allow the Panthers to lead by more than three out of the break until back-to-back Bulldog errors helped High Point secure the final two points of the set and take a 2-0 lead.
Asheville's best start came in the third set, as the Bulldogs opened with a 7-3 advantage, following a pair of kills from van der Goot and a kill from Baylor Herlehy. The Bulldogs extended their lead out 17-9 and looked poised to send the match into a fourth set, but the Panthers crept back in the game, going on an 11-4 run to cut Asheville's lead down to one (21-20). The Bulldogs scored the following two points, but High Point responded with a 6-1 run to earn a 26-24 set victory.
