Out of the gate, the Blue Raiders took a 3-1 lead and quickly extended their lead by five (9-4). Asheville brought the score back within three points following a kill and service ace from Michelle Thao (12-9), but MTSU extended its lead back out to five entering the media break (15-10). The Bulldogs once again brought the score back within three points (18-15) before the Blue Raiders closed the set out on a 7-2 run.
In the second frame, MTSU did not lead by more than four points through the opening rallies until a 6-2 run by the Blue Raiders extended their lead out to eight (19-11). The Bulldogs answered with a kill by Sydney Bradley, followed by back-to-back service aces from Matilde Teixeira to bring the score back within five points (19-14).
