Women's Basketball Battles, but Falls to High Point on Wednesday

 ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team battled but fell to High Point in Big South Conference action Wednesday night (Jan. 4) by a score of 71-55.
The Bulldogs overcame a slow-starting first quarter to out-score the Panthers 18-14 in the second quarter and 17-10 in the third quarter, before hitting a cold spell in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs battled until the final horn on their home floor.
The Bulldogs were able to out-score High Point 18-2 on second chances, while also scoring 32 points in the paint and 10 off the bench.
McKinley Brooks-Sumpter led the Bulldogs with a game-high 19 points, while Nycerra Minnis notched a new career-high with 10 points. Mallory Bruce and Jordaynia Ivie each tallied eight points in the game, while Abigail Wilson had seven and Jamaya Blanks also had three. Brooks-Sumpter and Minnis each had five rebounds in the game, while Wilson and Faith Adams each had four rebounds. Bruce and Ivie each pulled down three boards apiece, while Blanks and Dakota McCaughan each had two and Millie Brown also had one. Brooks-Sumpter and Adams each dished out two assists in the game, while Ivie, McCaughan and Brown each had one. Adams led the Bulldogs with four steals in the game, while Ivie, McCaughan and Brown each had one. Blanks posted the lone block in the game for the Bulldogs.
