Last Time Out – In the first Big South ESPNU Wildcard game of the season, the UNC Asheville men's basketball team rallied to knock off Longwood by a score of 54-46 on Thursday night at Kimmel Arena. With the victory, the Bulldogs move into first place in the Big South standings with a 4-1 record, improve to 7-0 at home, and boost their overall record to 12-6 on the season.

Starting 2023 on a Streak – The Bulldogs have won all three of their games so far in 2023. The victories, which have been over High Point, Campbell, and Longwood, all saw Asheville erase a second half deficit and come back to win. A big key in the 3-0 start to 2023 for Asheville has been the play of Drew Pember. Pember, who was named the Big South's Player of Week on Monday, is averaging 23.0 points and 10.3 rebounds so far in the new year to go along with a team-high six blocked shots.

Second Half Surges – In each of their last three wins, Asheville trailed at halftime. The Bulldogs trailed by nine at High Point, 15 against Campbell, and five against Longwood after 20 minutes of action. However, Asheville has outscored those three opponents 119-75 in the second half to come back and win each game.

Best Big South Start Since – The 4-1 start by Asheville in Big South play marks one of its best starts to conference play in recent years. The last time the Bulldogs began league play by winning four of their first five games was back in the 2016-17 season. The 2022-23 Bulldogs will look to match the 2016-17 team again on Saturday as the latter started 5-1 against Big South foes.

About Gardner-Webb – The Runnin' Bulldogs will bring an 8-9 overall record with it into Saturday's game vs. Asheville. Gardner-Webb, which is 3-2 in Big South play so far, picked up a 79-78 overtime win on the road at Presbyterian on Wednesday. The tandem of Anthony Selden and DQ Nicholas lead the way for Gardner-Webb as both players are averaging 11.5 points per game this season.

Series Rewind vs. Gardner-Webb – Gardner-Webb holds the edge in the all-time series vs. Asheville, 36-25. GWU has won the last three matchups between these two programs, including a 60-59 victory last season in Boiling Springs. Asheville will be looking for its first win over the Runnin' Bulldogs since January 19, 2021 when the Bulldogs took the win, 79-75, on Gardner-Webb's home floor.
