Cross Country readies for the Winthrop Invitational on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday with the Winthrop Invitational. The men's 8k race will begin at 9 a.m. with the women's 5k race to follow around 9:45 a.m.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs competed in their first races of the 2022 season back on September 2 in Boone, N.C. At the Covered Bridge Open, the men's team finished ninth, while the women's squad placed 12th.
Big South Runner of the Week – Leading the way for the Bulldogs in Boone was Adam Hessler. Hessler finished 16th in a field that consisted of 146 runners with a time of 25:55.61. For his efforts, Hessler was named the Big South's Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Note from Coach – "This competition gives both our men's and women's teams the opportunity to be competitive with teams within the Big South Conference," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Adam Puett. "It also gives us practice racing on a rolling hills course that will mimic what our conference meet will look like."
About the Races – Saturday morning's races will take place at the Winthrop Farm in Rock Hill, S.C. Other teams other than the Bulldogs that will be competing include Catawba, The Citadel, Claflin, Gardner-Webb, South Carolina, and Winthrop. Live results for both races can be followed HERE.
