Men’s Soccer hosts Georgia Southern on Sunday in its 2022 home opener

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will open its 2022 home schedule on Sunday by hosting Georgia Southern on Sunday at Greenwood Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville fell in its season opener at UNC Greensboro on Thursday by a score of 5-1. The loss snaps the Bulldogs' two-match winning streak in season openers.
First Bulldog Goal – The Bulldogs' lone goal on Thursday came from graduate transfer Sammy Kilimann. Kilimann, who was playing in his first match as a Bulldog, was a NCAA Division II All-American last season at Cedarville University.
Success in Home Openers – When it takes the pitch on Sunday, Asheville will look to continue its recent successes in home openers. The Bulldogs have won three straight home openers at Greenwood Field, including a 3-2 win over Northern Kentucky last year.
About Georgia Southern – Like the Bulldogs, Georgia Southern fell in its first match of the 2022 campaign on Thursday. In GSU's matchup, it dropped a close 1-0 decision on the road at Presbyterian. The Eagles are coming off a 4-12-1 record in 2021 and were projected to finish ninth in the tough Sun Belt Conference which boasts three teams ranked top-15 nationally in the preseason.
Series Rewind vs. the Eagles – Georgia Southern has won four of the seven all-time matchups with Asheville. Sunday's match, however, will be the first meeting since 2014.
