Men’s Soccer opens 2022 season Thursday at UNC Greensboro

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will open its 2022 season on Thursday when it travels to UNC Greensboro. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Spartans is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
New Year, new look Bulldogs – Asheville will have several new faces on the pitch this fall. Overall, Head Coach Mick Giordano and his coaching staff brought in 17 new players in the offseason. Of the 17 new Bulldogs, seven come to Asheville with collegiate playing experience at other institutions.
Reliable returners back in Asheville – Mixed in with all the newcomers will be a few key returners for Asheville. Conor Behan and Jake Kemhadjian are both back with the Bulldogs for 2022. Behan was the team's leading point scorer with seven (two goals, three assists), while Kemhadjian paced the team with four assists with a goal of his own in 2021.
Starting the season strong – Asheville will look to win its third consecutive season opener on Thursday. During the spring season in 2021, the Bulldogs knocked off Longwood 2-1 before downing Northern Kentucky 3-2 to begin the fall campaign.
About UNC Greensboro – Thursday will also be the season opener for UNCG. In 2021, the Spartans went 13-4-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play. UNCG, which was predicted to win the Southern Conference in 2022 in the League's Preseason Poll, also was ranked #29 in College Soccer News Preseason National Poll.
Series Rewind vs. the Spartans – Thursday will be the 13th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Spartans and the first since 2019. Asheville will be in search of its second win in the series on Thursday with its other coming on September 11, 2016 at Greenwood Field.
