UNC Asheville Tennis Teams Earn Multiple Academic Honors from the ITA

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's tennis teams along with seven student-athletes recently earned academic awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Both tennis programs garnered All-Academic Team honors. It marks the 14th straight year that the women's tennis team has earned this accolade. For the men's squad, this is its third straight academic honor from the ITA and eighth overall. Asheville joins fellow Big South schools Presbyterian and Radford that had both of its tennis teams recognized for their performance in the classroom.
 
Individually, Kendall Byers, Beatrice Faureng, Lize Alet Morkel from the women's tennis team, while Jon Brann Reid, Bruno Serra, Rafa Serra, and Harry Thursfield were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes.   

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements: 1) have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
 
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements: 1) have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 2) be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
