Women’s Basketball adds Virginia transfer Nycerra Minnis to its recruiting class

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Head Women's Basketball Coach Honey Brown announced Friday the addition of transfer Nycerra Minnis (Riverdale, Md.) to her team's recruiting class. Minnis, a 6-3 forward, joins the Bulldogs after spending the last two seasons with the University of Virginia's women's basketball program.
"I am excited to add Nycerra to our Bulldog family," Brown said of Minnis. "She had a great high school career in Maryland as one of the top rebounders and shot blockers in the state. Nycerra was able to get better and get stronger as a player at Virginia and is ready to contribute as a Bulldog. Her size and length in the post is something we needed and her teammates will love playing with her."
During her time at Virginia, Minnis was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll after her freshman season. She made her collegiate debut in a game vs. Florida State on January 30, 2022 where she played roughly four minutes and blocked one shot.
As a prep, Minnis played three seasons at Parkdale High School before playing her senior campaign at Herndon High School. She was listed on the DMV Top-5 Blocker and Top-10 Rebounder lists. Ranked No. 43 at her position by ESPNW coming out of high school, Minnis averaged 17 rebounds per game as a senior on her way to being named to the 2019-20 All-Prince George County First Team, the Liberty District Second Team, and honorable mention on the All-DMV team. Furthermore, Minnis was a McDonald's All-American nominee.
Minnis joins fellow transfer Taylor Wilkins (New Orleans, La.), along with freshmen Jada Brigman (Charlotte, N.C.), and Millie Brown (Nashville, Tenn.) as the newest group of Bulldogs that are set to take the court for the team for the 2022-23 season.
