ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track & field teams will head to Atlanta this weekend to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational. The two-day meet will run on Friday and Saturday, with the first events scheduled to begin at Noon each day.
Last Time Out – Asheville competed at last weekend's Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina. The Bulldogs enjoyed their trip to Cullowhee with seven first-place finishes, three school records being broken to go along with several personal-best performances across various events.
Rewriting the Record Books – Asheville continues to rewrite the record books during this outdoor season. Jalen Anderson broke the program's outdoor record in the 100-meter dash not once but twice last Saturday with times of 10.45 in the prelims and 10.35 in the finals. Asheville also saw the 4x100m relay (Akin Williams, Anderson, Denley Joseph, Anthony Mason) and 4x400m relay (Mason, Anderson, Joseph, Bryson Riddick) teams etch their names into the record books with their performances last weekend.
Among the Best in the Big South - This weekend's competition will be the Bulldogs' final meet before the 2022 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Currently, Asheville has several athletes ranking near the top of the Big South leaderboard in their given events. On the track, Zac Weas and Nick Roberts both rank in the top five in the 110m hurdles, while John Ciprich can say the same in the 3000m steeplechase. In the field events, Asheville has several representatives in the top five. The trio of Claudia Prieto (Long Jump, Triple Jump), Solomon McDonald (Shot Put, Discus), and Jack Choiniere (Shot Put, Discus) all rank among the top five in the conference in multiple events. At the same time, Maya Stanley and Brianna Moore can claim the same in the discus and javelin throws.
Note from Coach – "This will be our last competition to determine who will be on our conference championship roster," said Head Coach Joel Williams. "We'd like to see a continuation of the high-quality performances that we had last week flow into this meet. There will be not only great competition present but also a promising forecast, and good weather often accompanies terrific performances."
How to Follow – There will not be a live stream for this weekend's meet, but live results will be available for following HERE.
