CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track & field teams wrapped up the first day of the Catamount Classic on Friday. On the day, the Bulldogs recorded a pair of event victories, added two more podium finishes, and logged multiple personal and season-best marks across a variety of events.
Highlighting the day for the Bulldogs were the two event wins. Jalen Anderson, who also posted the top finish for a Bulldog in the long jump, won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.39. It marks Anderson's fourth event win during the 2021-22 season and the third in the 200-meter dash alone.
The other first-place finish by a Bulldog came in the women's long jump, where Claudia Prieto paced the field with a leap of 5.98-meters. It marks not only the third straight meet that Prieto has won the long jump, but it also marks the second straight year that Prieto has taken the top spot in the event at the Catamount Classic. Â
Asheville's other two podium finishes came in a pair of field events. Solomon McDonald placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.42-meters, while Brianna Moore did the same in the javelin with a mark of 32.65-meters.
Moore also logged a new personal-best in the long jump (5.52-meters) and finished fourth, while Anthony Mason also ranked among the top-five times in the 200-meter dash (22.15).
