Bulldogs wrap up day one of the VertKlasse Meeting on Friday

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track & field teams finished up day one of the VertKlasse Meeting on Friday on the campus of High Point. Amongst the field of stellar competition, the Bulldogs logged four top-five finishes and multiple season-best outings.
Asheville's top finish in any event on Friday came in the men's 5000-meter run. Daniel Hopkins finished as the runner-up in the event, clocking in at 15:00.38. Maya Stanley (Shot Put – 11.92-meters) and John Ciprich (3000m steeplechase) each finished fourth in their given events. For Ciprich, his time in the 3000-meter steeplechase ranked as the third-fastest in program history.
Solomon McDonald was the other Bulldog that logged a top-five finish on Friday. McDonald placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.15-meters. McDonald also posted the top mark for the Bulldogs in the shot put with a mark of 16.85-meters, which ranked sixth in the field.
Brianna Moore (Javelin – 38.36-meters) and Zac Weas (High Jump – 1.80-meters) also logged top-10 finishes for Asheville in their events. Moore and Weas not only logged the top finish by a Bulldog in those events, but they also set new personal-bests.
The Bulldogs will close out the VertKlasse Meeting on Saturday. The action will get underway at 9 a.m. Like Friday, Saturday will have an ESPN+ broadcast that is scheduled to be on the air at 2:30 p.m.
