Women’s Golf finishes first Tournament of Spring Season

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team finished its first tournament of the Spring Season on Tuesday, completing play at the RiverTowne Invitational.

After being unable to finish round two on Monday due to darkness, the field finished round two then played the final 18 Tuesday. As a team, the Bulldogs finished 11th in the field of 16 teams, posting a 308 for round two and 313 in round three.

Venecia Zaia opened Monday with an 80, but settled in for rounds two and three, carding a 75 and 76 to finish T-27. In round two, Zaia would birdie hole No. 3 and in the third and final round, the Murrieta, California, native would birdie hole No. 11.

After struggling a little in round two, Madyson Gold posted her best round of the tournament, firing a round-three 77 with a birdie on hole No. 7 to finish T-50. Phoebe Carles' tournament was similar to Gold's, settling in after the first round to card a 3-over-par 75 in round two before finishing with a round-three 77 and end the tournament one stroke behind Gold (+24), with Hailey Pendleton rounding out the scoring for Asheville (+27).

The Bulldogs will return to action in just a couple of weeks, opening up play at the Low Country Intercollegiate on March 19.
