CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In back-to-back weeks and for the third time in five weeks, UNC Asheville Women's Tennis boasts a Big South Player of the Week, with Lize Alet Morkel earning the award for the week of February 14-20.
Against Longwood this past week, Morkel tallied a 6-1 doubles victory paired with Taylor love, and a 6-3, 6-3 singles victory on the No. 1 court on the way to a 6-1 match victory.
Morkel is a perfect 6-0 on the year in doubles play, and 5-0 in singles matchups, with three of those victories as the No. 1 singles player.
Morkel has now collected six career Player of the Week awards, amassing two her freshman and sophomore years, and one last season in her junior year.
This marks the first time in program history that three different Bulldogs have earned Player of the Week in the same season, joining Charleston Southern and Winthrop, and former members Liberty and Coastal Carolina as the only Big South programs to accomplish this feat since the award started in 2011.
Morkel and the Bulldogs venture to North Carolina A&T on Thursday for a matchup at 2:00 p.m., and then to North Carolina Central on Friday at 12:00 p.m.
