LYNCHBURG, Va. – In a season full of program-firsts, the UNC Asheville swimming and diving team notched a few more on the final day of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships on Saturday. Asheville finished third at this year's Championships with 1,387.5 points, which is the highest the Bulldogs have ever finished at a conference meet. The Bulldogs also tallied their first conference champion in an event (Caitlin Hefner - 1650 Free), notched a few more podium finishes, and broke even more school/freshman records.

"Our entire staff is incredibly proud of this team and our success," said Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "An unexpected number of podium appearances and our highest ever team finish showed how all the ladies' hard work has paid off."

Finals Recap
Asheville continued to rewrite the program's record book in the week's final session. Hefner got things started by becoming Asheville's first-ever gold medalist at the CCSA Championships with a time of 16:47.40 in the 1650 free.

The Championships ended with Asheville's eighth silver medal of the week as the foursome of Nora Segurola Larrinaga, Abby Parks, Jessie Frank, and Delaney Carlton were the runner-up in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:22.05. This performance clinched yet another school record for the Bulldogs.

As an individual, Parks placed third in the 100 free with a time of 50.36, which bested her own school record of 50.56. Larrinaga was just 0.63 seconds off her school record in the 200 back with a time of 1:59.92.

Even though they didn't have any swimmers in the 'A' final, the duo of Mikaela Fullerton (2:15.92) and Riley Edmundson (2:20.44) topped the 'B' Final in the 200 breaststroke, capping a stellar week for both swimmers.

Earlier in the day
Like it has on the previous three days of the CCSA Championships, Asheville advanced several swimmers into the finals later in the day. Overall, 11 Bulldogs punched their tickets to the final evening session of the week (6 A, 3 B, 2 C).

Highlighting the morning swims were a pair of lifetime best outings. Frank set a new personal-best with her time in the 100 free (51.52), which qualified her for the evening's 'B' final. Addison Wright, meanwhile, logged a lifetime best time in the 100 free time trial clocking in at 52.70.

Other 'A' qualifiers for the Bulldogs on the morning were Carlton (100 free – 50.94), Parks (100 free – 50.78), Grace Adams (200 back - 2:02.19), and Larrinaga (200 back – 2:00.61). Asheville also showed quite a bit of depth in the 200 breaststroke, with four swimmers clinching final spots (2 B, 2 C) and three others registered season-best times in the event.
