Wade Chandler Selected to Represent Fox, Wear No. 6

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team announced Thursday that senior outfielder Wade Chandler was selected to wear the No. 6 jersey during the 2022 season in honor of former Bulldog Jeff Fox.
Fox was a four-year letterman on the Bulldog baseball team from 1988-91. He was a four-year starter for Asheville and helped lead the Bulldogs to some of their best seasons in school history. The Taylorsville, North Carolina native graduated in 1992 with a degree in sociology. Fox served as a member of the United States Secret Service from 1994 until 2002. He left the Secret Service in 2002 and spent two years as a member of the US Air Marshals. He held a position with the CIA from 2003 until 2015 and worked for the US Defense Department since 2015.
"We want every player in our program to set a goal to wear No. 6 one year," said Head Coach Scott Friedholm. "It is a great honor to be mentioned in the same sentence and wear the same number as Jeff Fox. It means you show the characteristics of loyalty, self-determination, and dedication. Everything we want in a teammate and friend."
Chandler enters his fourth season with the Bulldogs in 2022. The Apex, North Carolina native was Asheville's main center fielder for most of the 2021 campaign. Hitting mainly from the lead-off spot, Chandler hit .250 in 108 at-bats. Highlighting his junior season was a 17-game on-base streak from April 3 to May 7. Chandler also notched multiple hits eight times in 2021.
