ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will head out on the road Wednesday to visit Campbell in a Big South matchup. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Camels is set for 7 p.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs were last in action on Saturday, where they dropped a 75-54 decision to Winthrop on the road. Asheville's records stand at 7-13 overall and 2-7 in Big South play with the loss.
Evans joins Exclusive Club – One highlight for Asheville on Saturday was that Nadiria Evans achieved a feat that only four previous Bulldogs have done so before. That achievement was scoring 1,600 points in her career. Evans, who has now scored 1,614 points as a Bulldog, ranks 18th on the Big South's all-time scoring list and needs just three more points to move into 17th place.
January Jolt from Carter – Junior Kai Carter had a stellar first month of 2022 as she nearly averaged a double-double in eight games played (17.5 PPG, 8.0 RPG). Carter scored in double figures in all but one game in January and posted three 20-plus point outings.
Finish in February – Wednesday marks the first game of the final month of the regular season for the Bulldogs. Asheville hopes to improve its positioning for the upcoming Big South Tournament that will take place at Charlotte's Bojangles Coliseum. In February, the Bulldogs make trips to Campbell, Radford, and High Point, host USC Upstate and Charleston Southern, and play home-and-home contests against Gardner-Webb and Hampton.
About Campbell – Campbell enters Wednesday's game tied with Longwood for first place in the Big South with an 8-2 league record. The Camels, who are 14-5 overall, have dropped their last two games to USC Upstate (82-61) and North Carolina A&T (76-61) after winning 11 straight. Despite coming up short in the last two, the Camels still boast the number one defense in the Big South, surrendering just 53 points per game.
Series Rewind vs. Campbell – The series between Asheville and Campbell is a lengthy one, with the first meeting occurring back in the 1979-80 season. Historically, the Camels have held the edge, winning 42 of the 57 matchups. Since the beginning of the 2017-18 campaign, the Bulldogs have gone 5-4 against Campbell.
