Bulldogs Drop Non-Conference Contest to ETSU on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team dropped its non-conference contest to East Tennessee State on Saturday (Dec. 17) by a score of 64-52.
ETSU jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first, before the Bulldogs found their stride offensively to take a 12-11 lead just before the halfway point of the quarter. The Bucs would counter with a run of their own to take a 21-14 lead to the second.
The second quarter started out slow for both teams, with ETSU leading 25-16 at the media timeout. ETSU would score five points and Asheville four in the remaining time as ETSU led 31-20 at the half.
The Bucs came out firing in the third quarter, stretching their lead further into double digits. The Bulldogs used a late push in the quarter to get the deficit to 10 headed to the fourth, with ETSU leading 47-37.
The Bulldogs battled through the fourth quarter until the final horn.
McKinley Brooks-Sumpter led the way with 11 points for Asheville, while Jamaya Blanks notched a career-high with 10 points. Jordaynia Ivie and Abigail Wilson each had seven points, while Mallory Bruce and Jamia Blake each turned in six points. Millie Brown chipped in three points, while Nycerra Minnis also had two. Bruce led the rebounding effort with six boards, while Wilson also had four and Brooks-Sumpter, Blake and Blanks each had three. Brooks-Sumpter, Ivie and Dakota McCaughan each had a team-high two assists in the game, while Bruce, Blake and Brown each had one. Ivie led the way with three steals, while Brooks-Sumpter, Bruce and Blanks each had two. Blanks and Minnis each posted one block in the game.
The Bulldogs return to the floor in Kimmel Arena on Monday (Dec. 19) to face Wofford in non-conference action. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. from Kimmel Arena.
