Swimming & Diving heads to Florida for a pair of competitions

12.15.2022 | Women's Swimming & Diving

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team will hit the road for a pair of meets in Florida in the coming days. Asheville will start its trip to the Sunshine State with the CSCAA Open Water Championships in Miami, Florida on December 18. Following the CSCAA Championships, the Bulldogs will close out the 2022 portion of their schedule with a conference meet at Florida Gulf Coast on December 20 at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out – The last time the Bulldogs were in action was back on November 18-20 when they competed at the Fall Frenzy Invitational. Asheville finished third in the team standings with 1,369.5 points.

A Fine Fall – UNC Asheville has continued its stellar performances from last season into the 2022-23 campaign. Asheville, which is 4-0 this season in dual meets, has now won 16 consecutive dual meets with its last loss coming in October 2020 vs. Liberty. Furthermore, the Bulldogs have broken multiple school and freshmen records throughout their first few meets of this season.

A look back at the 2021 Open Water Championships – At last year's Open Water Championships, Asheville posted its best finish ever checking in at seventh place in the field. Caitlin Hefner finished sixth individually with a time of 1:04:34.9. Hefner will be joined by Grace Adams, Anna Kulniszewski, Nora Segurola Larrinaga, and Gaby Shenot as Bulldogs competing on Sunday.

Note from Coach – "These five ladies have been working extremely hard to be prepared for the open water 5k on Sunday," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins ahead of Sunday's meet. "Our staff applauds their efforts and readiness to race & compete with some of the fastest open water college women in the country. Looking forward to some fast swimming!"

About Florida Gulf Coast / Series Rewind – Like Asheville, Florida Gulf Coast is unbeaten so far in 2022-23 as it has a 3-0 mark so far this season. Next Tuesday's meet in Fort Myers will be the first matchup between these two CCSA teams since 2018. The Eagles have won the previous two meetings in the series.
