Track & Field Opens its 2022-23 Season this weekend in Boone

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track & field teams will begin their 2022-23 seasons this weekend with the John Weaver Invitational at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C. Friday's action will get underway at 5 p.m. and will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Team Competing – Asheville will be joined in Boone this weekend by fellow Big South schools Winthrop and Gardner-Webb to go along with Appalachian State, Lenoir-Rhyne, Montreat, Western Carolina, Wofford, Milligan, Livingstone, and Columbia International.
Rewind to Last Indoor Season – Both the men's and women's team placed seventh at last year's Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships. Asheville broke multiple indoor school records last year, earned a trio of weekly awards from the Big South, and multiple student-athletes garner All-Big South accolades.
About the 2022-23 Bulldogs – Asheville will return a lot of experienced competitors for 2022-23. Among the returners are Solomon McDonald (shot put) and Claudia Prieto (long jump), who both qualified for the NCAA Outdoor East Regionals last spring.
Furthermore, the Bulldogs bring back several student-athletes that hold program indoor school records, which include McDonald (shot put), Brock Newsome (DMR), Alex Haines (DMR), Bryson Riddick (DMR, 4x400m relay), Adam Hessler (DMR, one mile run), Isaac Teasley (400-meter, 4x400m relay) for the men's team along with Kathryn Brown (Pentathlon), Raina Jackson (Shot Put), and Prieto (Long and triple jump) from the women's team.
