Bulldogs fall to High Point in season finale

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team dropped its final match of the season against High Point Saturday afternoon in a three-set contest (25-16, 25-21, 25-10).
Stat Standouts - After missing a few matches due to injury earlier in the season, Bahar Kurtulus returned to form, leading the Bulldogs with five kills in today's match. Lindsay Springer continued to lead the Bulldog setters, collecting 10 assists and ended the season as Asheville's assist leader with 428. Libero Giulia Rodrigues racked up nine more digs in the match, finishing the season as a top-five libero in the Big South, with 383 digs and while averaging 4.30 digs per set. In her first season as a Bulldog, Rodrigues finished tenth in total digs in a season and eighth in digs-per-set in program history during the 25-point scoring era.
First Set - Asheville was neck-in-neck with the Panthers in the opening volleys of the match, tying the match at 7-7 and tying the game seven other times in the set. Makenzi Searcy led the Bulldogs with three kills in the set and finished among the top-five in scoring for the Bulldogs in her freshman year. High Point eventually built up a commanding lead to take the set, 25-16.
Second Set - The Bulldogs again kept the match close against the Panthers, keeping the score within one for the majority of the set and tying the score six times. Bolstered by Kurtulus' three kills and three service aces, the Bulldogs were down 20-19 in the final stages of the set. Two kills from Avery Loeback down the stretch were not enough to turn the tide and High Point won the set, 25-21.
Third Set - High Point jumped out to a commanding lead in the third set and kept it throughout the entire set. Unlike the previous sets, Asheville was unable to keep the score and the Panthers closed out the match, 25-10.Â
With the loss, Asheville closes out their 2022 campaign with a record of 4-22 overall and 1-15 in the Big South Conference.
