Bulldog cross country teams finish third and seventh at the Big South Cross Country Championships

FARMVILLE, Va. – The UNC Asheville cross country teams competed at the 2022 Big South Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in Farmville, Virginia. The men's team finished third, while the women's team placed seventh.
The men's third-place finish marked the second straight season that the Bulldogs have placed third at the League Championships. Adam Hessler finished sixth with a time of 24:50.8 and John Ciprich placed 12th coming in with a time of 25:29.6. By finishing among the top 14 runners. Hessler (First Team) and Ciprich (Second Team) both earned All-Big South honors.
Asheville showed great depth as it had nine runners rank in the upper half of competitors on Saturday. Furthermore, six of these Bulldogs finished among the top 30.
The women's 5K race opened the day. Asheville had a pair of runners finish in the upper half of the 76-runner field. Freshman Emma Kennett posted the highest finish by a Bulldog by placing 30th with a time of 19:36.4. Not too far behind Kennett was fellow Bulldog Sophie Lundin, who ran the 5K course in 19:46.3 placing her 32nd.
Amanda Orban and Ava Nkadi both logged new personal-best times on Saturday clocking in at 21:00.8 and 21:28.8.
Following both races, Madeline Wittschen from the women's team and Dylan Major from the men's team were awarded spots on the Big South's All-Academic teams for their work in the classroom.
Asheville will be back in action on November 11 when it competes at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
