LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UNC Asheville cross country teams were led by a pair of record-breaking performances from John Ciprich and Adam Hessler on Saturday at the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.

Asheville started Saturday's action with some stellar performances in the men's 8K race. The tandem of Ciprich and Hessler both broke the school's 8K record with times of 24:16.9 and 24:24.2, respectively to pace Asheville. Ciprich and Hessler topped the previous mark of 24:49.4 set by Thomas Little in 2019.

On top of the fantastic runs put forth by Ciprich and Hessler, Asheville's Jackson Core (25:24.7), Yates Hockaday (25:19.3), Daniel Hopkins (25:08.9), Jax Ledford (25:42.9), Brock Newsome (25:32.8), and Andrew Okon (25:49.2) all set new personal-best 8K times as well.

As a team, the Bulldogs finished 24th of 31 teams that took to the course Saturday morning. Notably, Asheville outpaced regional foes Davidson, Mercer and Radford.

In the women's 5K race, Asheville was led by freshman Sophie Lundin with a time of 19:47.1. Fellow Bulldogs Emma Kennett (19:49.8), Madeline Wittschen (19:59.7), Amelie Simmes (20:51.4), Maddie Hamuka (22:05.7) all logged new personal-best times as well on Saturday.
