Women’s Basketball hosts North Carolina A&T Tuesday in ‘We Back Pat’ game

01.24.2022 | Women's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will close out a three-game homestand Tuesday night when it welcomes Big South newcomer North Carolina A&T to Kimmel Arena. Tuesday night's game, which is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off, will be the program's 'We Back Pat' game. A portion of Tuesday's ticket sales will be donated to the Pat Summitt Foundation, which helps create awareness and raises money in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. Fans are encouraged to wear purple for the game and cheer on your Bulldogs as they support a worthy cause.

Last Time Out – The Bulldogs fell to Presbyterian last Saturday by a score of 69-54 at home. The loss moves Asheville's overall record to 7-11 and 2-5 in league play.

Another 20-point outing for Kai – Junior Kai Carter had yet another stellar performance Saturday, netting a team-high 20 points. It marked Carter's fifth 20-plus point effort of the season and her third such performance in the last four games. Comparatively, Carter topped 20 points or more just once during her sophomore campaign.

Free Throw Records within reach – Nadiria Evans continues to close in a couple more records. Evans, who broke the Big South record for games played earlier this month, needs to make just 13 more free throws and attempt just six more shots from the line to break Asheville's school records in both categories.

Bruce at home in Kimmel – Freshman Mallory Bruce has played her best this season when the team plays at Kimmel Arena. Bruce has netted 57 points (7.1 PPG), grabbed 40 rebounds (5.0 RPG), and dished out eight assists in the eight home games so far. Bruce's point total at Kimmel Arena ranks behind only Carter (132) and Evans (82), while her rebounding number ranks behind only Carter (43).

Boost from a couple of Bulldogs lately – Two Bulldogs that have boosted their play recently have been the duo of Jordaynia Ivie and Abigail Wilson. Ivie is averaging 8.2 points per game in her last five games compared to a 4.3 average in the season's first 13 contests. Wilson, meanwhile, has upped her scoring average to 7.2 from 3.8 earlier in the 2021-22 season.

About North Carolina A&T – The Aggies bring a 5-10 overall record and a 2-3 mark in Big South play with it to Kimmel Arena. North Carolina A&T has a trio of players averaging double figures so far in 2021-22, including Chanin Scott, who leads the way averaging 13.7 points per contest.

Series Rewind vs. A&T –
Asheville and North Carolina A&T have not matched up a ton over the years. The all-time series consists of eight meetings, and the two teams have split those matchups. The Aggies, however, are riding a four-game winning streak against the Bulldogs into Tuesday's contest, with the last coming during the 2014-15 season, 63-46.

How to Follow
 – Tuesday's game will air on ESPN+. Fans can also follow the live stats or listen to the radio call on Rewind 100.3 FM from Mike Gore.
