LEXINGTON, Va. – The UNC Asheville track & field team continued its stellar start to the 2021-22 indoor season with another bunch of standout performances on the final day of the Keydet Invitational on Saturday. Overall, the Bulldogs won five events on the day and one new indoor record was established.

"We competed well today with five event wins to go along with the ones yesterday," Head Coach Joel Williams said afterward. "The team did a fantastic job supporting each other. We had some 4x400m relay competitors really step up in substitution."

The lone record-breaking performance Saturday came in the women's long jump. Claudia Prieto, who has broken the school's indoor long jump record twice already this season, did so again Saturday with a leap of 5.92-meters. Prieto also placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.79, which matched her personal-best time for the event.

Prieto was not the only Bulldog to take home first-place in a field event Saturday as Jack Choiniere (shot put – 16.85-meters) and Grady Rector (high jump – 1.75-meters) did the same in their given events. Additionally, Solomon McDonald and Choiniere continued their streak of placing first and second in their events as he placed behind his teammate with a toss of 16.79-meters.

Asheville also tallied a pair of wins on the track. Bryson Riddick scored a victory in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:06.53. Riddick's time Saturday ranked as the second-fastest ever notched by a Bulldog during an indoor campaign. Riddick also teamed with Anthony Mason, Isaac Teasley, and Denley Joseph to post the top time in the 4x400-meter relay, 3:21.04. That time also ranks among the top five on the program's all-time indoor list coming in third.

The Bulldogs also registered eight more podium finishes on the day. Mason notched two of these by placing second in the 200-meter dash (22.42) and in the 60-meter dash (7.02). His 60m time is the fastest by a Bulldog this season, while his 200m effort Saturday was just .04 off his season-low.

Zac Weas also finished second with a time of 8.47 in the 60-meter hurdles and Adam Hessler did the same in the mile (4:22.31). Fellow Bulldogs John Ciprich and Jackson Core were right behind in finishers in the mile.

Rounding out the stellar outings by Bulldogs Saturday was the tandem of Raina Jackson and Jurnee Coleman. Jackson eclipsed the 12-meter mark in the shot put for the third time already this season and finished second. In perspective, only two other Bulldogs have tossed the shot put 12 meters other than Jackson in Garrett Hunter and Crystal Goure. Finally, Coleman clocked in at 9.16 in the 60-meter hurdles. Coleman's time Saturday ranks only behind Kayli Nichols' 8.86 among 60m hurdlers during an indoor campaign.

Asheville will be back in action on February 4-5 when it competes at the Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State.
