LEXINGTON, Va.
 – The UNC Asheville track & field team got its weekend off to a stellar start at the Keydet Invitational on Friday. Overall, the Bulldogs scored four event victories, six podium finishes and qualified eight student-athletes for the finals of their events on Saturday.

"We picked up four event wins and had others position well for the finals tomorrow," said Head Coach Joel Williams. "Certainly a good day!"

On Friday, Asheville's four event victories were split evenly between the track and field events. Isaac Teasley (400-meter dash – 49.79) and Andrew Okon (5000-meter run – 15:33.16) paced the field in their respective events. Teasley was under a second from matching his personal best during an indoor season, while Okon set a new personal best in the 5000-meter run on Friday.

In the field events, Claudia Prieto took the top spot in the triple jump with a mark of 12.16-meters. Prieto, who topped 12 meters twice Friday, was just .22 meters shy of matching the school's indoor record that she already holds. Jack Choiniere also notched an event victory by winning the weight throw with a toss of 16.45-meters. Fellow Bulldog of Solomon McDonald finished as the runner-up to Choiniere with a toss of 15.87-meters himself.

Asheville also tallied a podium finish in one of the relay events Friday. The foursome of Brock Newsome, Bryson Riddick, Walker Lezotte, and John Ciprich placed third with a time of 10:26.22 in the distance medley relay.

Friday's action included a few preliminaries in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles events. The men's 60-meter hurdles event was the best for the Bulldogs in terms of qualifying runners for Saturday's finals. Three Bulldogs punched their ticket for the finals in Nick Roberts (8.53), Zac Weas (8.69), and Rob Brenneman (9.60). For Roberts, his time Friday matched his personal best in the event.

In the 60-meter dash events, Asheville put two runners into the finals in both the men's and women's races. Anthony Mason (3rd – 7.08) and Akin Williams (6th – 7.22) clocked in among the top eight finishers to advance, while Claudia Prieto (2nd- 7.80) and Elyse Myles (7th – 8.05) did the same in the women's race. Finally, Jurnee Coleman placed third in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles to join the top eight for the finals Saturday.

Asheville will be back in action tomorrow as it concludes the Keydet Invitational. The first events are slated to get underway at 10 a.m., and the results can be tracked
