ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After breaking for the holidays, the UNC Asheville track & field teams will be back in action this weekend when it competes at the ETSU Track & Field Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Events will run throughout both days, and fans can follow the live results HERE.
Last Time Out – Asheville broke out significantly during its first indoor meet of the 2021-22 season in early December at the Appalachian State Invitational. Overall, Asheville had 20 podium finishes, broke six indoor school records, and recorded multiple marks that rank among the top-five best the Bulldogs have ever produced during an indoor campaign across several events.
Big South Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – One of these record-breaking outings came from Solomon McDonald, who shattered the school's shot put record with a toss of 18.06-meters. McDonald becomes the first Bulldog to ever earn Field Athlete of the Week honors during an indoor season with this honor.
Remembering more Records - Claudia Prieto set new Bulldog benchmarks in both the long jump (5.81-meters) and triple jump (12.38-meters). Prieto also shined in the 55-meter dash, with times of 7.20 and 7.11 in the prelims and finals, respectively. Both of those times rank among the top-five ever tallied by a Bulldog. Furthermore, sophomore Raina Jackson began her second season in Asheville on a high note breaking the school's indoor record in the shot put (12.78-meters).
Asheville continues success in relays – During the last outdoor season, the Bulldog relay teams saw plenty of successes and posted several times that ranked as the fastest in the program's history. This trend continued to open the indoor season, as the Bulldogs broke both the men's and women's 4x300-meter relay records. The foursome of Elyse Myles, Jerralee Testa, Khadeesha Crumbly, Raven Thurman finished second with a time of 2:49.62, and the quartet of Anthony Mason, Isaac Teasley, Jalen Anderson, Bryson Riddick matched that second-place nod in the men's race, clocking in at 2:19.61.
About the Field/Meet - Asheville will compete against Division I programs East Tennessee State, Appalachian State, USC Upstate, and Wofford over the two-day meet along with regional foes King, Milligan, Tusculum, Carson-Newman, Lees-McRae, Lincoln Memorial, Emory & Henry, Cumberland (Tenn.), and Alice Lloyd.
