ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team will open its 2021-22 season on Friday when it competes at the CSCAA College National Open Water Championship in Lawrence, Kansas. The action is scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The Bulldogs, who have competed in this event every year since 2017 except 2020, will have Hannah Bruno, Caitlin Hefner, Nora Segurola Larrinaga, and Gaby Shenot competing. Each swimmer met a qualifying time in order to attend the race.

"It's always exciting to get the year started with the CSCAA College National Open Water Championship," said Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "These four ladies have been working hard to be prepared so early in the season for such an extensive race."

The event is being hosted by the University of Kansas at Lone Star Lake. The participants, which has been capped at 70, will compete in a 5,000-meter race (3.1 miles). Medals will be awarded to the top eight finishers, and the team that places first will receive a plaque.
