LAWERANCE, Kan. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team had a stellar start to the 2021-22 season on Friday morning at the CSCAA College National Open Water Championship. Overall, the Bulldog placed seventh amongst the field of teams with 69 points, and freshman Caitlin Hefner ranked sixth individually with a time of 1:04:34.9. The finishes by the Bulldogs and Hefner along with the latter's time established new program-bests at the event.

"I'm super proud of these ladies and their incredible efforts," said Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "I love their positive energy and enjoyed seeing all the hard work demonstrated with such a successful competition."

In addition to Hefner's outing, the trio of Hannah Bruno (26th – 1:08:36.1), Nora Segurola Larrinaga (37th – 1:09:21.6), and Gaby Shenot (39th – 1:09.24.2) all had stellar long-distance swims to help the Bulldogs place in the top 10. The Bulldogs were one of three teams on the day joining Nebraska and Kansas to finish among the top 40 swimmers in a field consisting of 70 competitors.

The Bulldogs will return to action next Saturday when they host an Intersquad/Alumni meet at the Justice Center Pool, with the start time being set for 11 a.m.
