ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Women's Soccer player Courtney O'Malley kicked off her summer in a big way, participating in the NCAA "Career in Sports Forum."

The event, which was held virtually this year, ran from May 26-28.

"I was made aware of the Career in Sports Forum by Rebecca (Nelms) earlier this spring before deciding to apply," O'Malley said. "The virtual forum included several keynote speakers, engaging breakout panels, and team informational sessions geared towards student-athletes who are interested in pursuing professions in youth, collegiate, and professional athletics post-graduation."

The NCAA Career in Sports Forum is aimed at current student-athletes who are interested in a career in sports after their respective playing days.

"I am incredibly thankful that I had the opportunity to participate and form connections that ultimately provided me an absolutely invaluable experience," O'Malley said. "Throughout the sessions, I learned a great deal about myself. In addition to learning what drives me to play sports, I also learned more about the overall strengths I possess that will allow me to be a successful teammate, leader, and future employee. I am walking away from this experience as a stronger leader, more complete athlete, and better version of myself."

"I served as Courtney's color team leader (BLUE CREW!)," said Florida Southern Director of Compliance Hannah Delph. "During our sessions, we focused on strengths finder and how our individual strengths can be utilized in roles we are interested in within athletics. Our color team huddle also included practicing elevator pitches, revising resume bullet points, and making industry connections.

"I was lucky enough to have Hannah as the leader of my color team," said O'Malley. "Whenever we broke into our smaller groups, Hannah was leading us and helping us get to know one another better, so that we could properly utilize the event as a networking and connection-building opportunity. She ran us through some informational sessions and prepared us for the rest of the virtual panels that included all of the participants."

"Courtney was an excellent participant and was very engaging," Delph said. "She always contributed in group discussion. I know she's going to go far!"
