Track & Field Wraps Up Day One of Big South Outdoor Championships

HIGH POINT, N.C.
 – The UNC Asheville track & field teams closed out the first day of the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships Monday at High Point. 

Most of Monday's action were in the first events of the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon. Jurnee Coleman will enter Tuesday's action in third place with 2,655 points. Coleman's top point-scoring event was the 200-meter dash, where she placed second with a time of 26.39.

In the decathlon, Grady Rector and Robert Brenneman sit fourth and fifth, respectively, after one day of competition. However, both Bulldogs had some stellar showings in certain events. Brenneman won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.08, while Rector placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.83-meters.


In the four other events that took place Monday, India Appleton posted the top finish in this group. Appleton finished fifth in the 10000-meter run with a time of 37:17.82. This time was a new personal best for Appleton after she posted a time of 43:28.08 in the same event at the 2019 Championships.


The Bulldogs and the rest of the field will be back for day two of the Championships on Tuesday. The first events of the day are scheduled to begin at noon with the women's shot put and men's long jump. There will be competitions held throughout the day.
