BIG SOUTH RELEASE

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
 – The Big South Conference announced Monday that UNC Asheville's Jacob Edwards was named the Big South's Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played between May 3-9. It marks the second time this season that Edwards has earned this honor with the other being on April 12.

"It was great to see Jacob have command of three pitches and compete the way he did last weekend," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Scott Friedholm. "He was able to keep Longwood off balance by pitching ahead most of the game."

Edwards turned in one of the best outings by any Bulldog pitcher this season Friday vs. Longwood. The junior lefthander picked up his fourth win of the season after working six innings, allowing one run (not earned) and matching a career-high with 10 strikeouts. Edwards, who began his start vs. Longwood with 4.2 no-hit innings, has now allowed two runs or fewer in five of his last seven starts. Overall, Edwards finished the week with a 1.35 ERA in two appearances covering 6.2 innings.

As mentioned earlier, Monday's honor marks the second time in 2021 Edwards has earned a weekly award from the Big South. This achievement puts Edwards in rare company as he is the first Bulldog pitcher to earn multiple Pitcher of the Week honors in the same season since Alan DeRatt in 2008.

Edwards and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action Tuesday when it welcomes USC Upstate to Greenwood Field. The first pitch between Asheville and Upstate is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
