Track & Field Returns to Action at the Catamount Classic
04.15.2021 | Track and Field
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track and field teams will return to action at the Catamount Classic this weekend at Western Carolina. The Classic will take place on Friday and Saturday, with the first events beginning at 3 p.m. and 12:10 p.m., respectively.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs' last meet was at the Montreat Invitational on March 26-27. Over those two days, Asheville placed second in both the men's and women's standings that consisted of over 25 programs.
Another Record for Prieto - Claudia Prieto broke the program's outdoor record in the triple jump with a leap of 12.23-meters at Montreat. Prieto's jump established a new program record and set a new top mark among Big South student-athletes this season. Prieto, who also placed in the top three in the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 12.31, capped off a stellar weekend where she matched the school record in the long jump (5.78-meters) that she set earlier this year.
Top Mark in the Big South – Another highlight at Montreat for Asheville was its 4x400-meter relay team of Anthony Mason, Bryson Riddick, Rob Brenneman, and Jalen Anderson, who logged a time of 3:18.00. The four Bulldogs' time earned the top spot at the meet and marked the fastest time in the Big South this season in that event.
Note from Coach – "We're glad to get back to competing after three weeks of training," said Head Coach Joel Williams. "This will be the second-largest competition in terms of the number of teams competing so far."
Attendance Policy – Due to current CoVID-19 protocols, no spectators will be admitted at this weekend's meet. However, live results will be available throughout the two days. The final meet schedule can also be found HERE.
