Chillson nets three as Bulldogs win 4-2
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Skyler Chillson scored three goals as the UNC Asheville women's soccer team capped off regular season play on Sunday afternoon, defeating Gardner-Webb 4-2 at Greenwood Field.
Asheville jumped in front 2-0 via goals from Skyler Chillson and Emily Dueñas, moving ahead 3-1 in the second as Chillson scored for the second time. The Runnin' Bulldogs answered to make it 3-2, but Chillson would put the game out of reach in the last minute with her third goal of the game.
"They've had a lot of change. Different personnel, different coaches, different systems, and they've weathered everything just so well," said head coach Clifton Bush of his senior group. "They've done it with such class. Super proud of this group."
Notable Numbers
- Asheville scores season-high three goals
- Chillson drains three, Dueñas adds one goal (first of the season)

- Bulldogs grab first home win of season
How it Happened
Gardner-Webb would register the first shot of the game before the Bulldogs reeled off a trio of shots. In the 13th minute Chillson collected the ball and fired it to the lower right side of the goal to make the score 1-0. The two sides traded chances and in the 38th Asheville earned a corner that led to an Emily Dueñas snipe to make the score 2-0.
The Runnin' Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the board in the second, scoring in less than a minute to cut the lead in half. Five minutes later, Chillson took a pass from Clark and ripped it to the top corner of the net. Gardner-Webb responded again in the 60th as Maddie Turlington made the score 3-2 in favor of Asheville. Each side continued to press in search of another score, but Asheville was able to get an insurance goal from Chillson for the 4-2 victory.
"What you see is what we've seen from the first time she stepped on the field here," Bush said of Chillson. "Today you could see the amount of effort she put in during her career really paid off."
That's a wrap
The Bulldogs finish their spring 2021 season with an overall record of 2-7 (all Big South matches).
