CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Tuesday that UNC Asheville's Peyton McClinton and Kasey West are the Big South Player of the Week and Big South Libero of the Week, respectively, for matches played between March 1-7. Tuesday's accolades mark the first time Asheville claimed multiple weekly awards since November 12, 2018, when Cara Guthrie (Player) and Grace Volk (Freshman) received honors from the conference.
"Awesome recognition for two deserving players," said Head Coach Frederico Santos. "Peyton and Kasey deserve these awards for their performances and hard work on the court. Congratulations!"
McClinton played a significant factor in Asheville picking up a pair of victories at Presbyterian last week. In the first match vs. the Blue Hose, McClinton tallied a career-high 19 kills on a .275 hitting percentage. McClinton also added eight digs and notched two block assists in that four-set triumph for Asheville. McClinton was even better in the second match, totaling 18 kills, 18 digs, two aces, and five block assists.
West, who was named the league's libero of the week last Tuesday, too, paced all Bulldog defenders last week in a pair of matches at PC. The Mills River, N.C. native totaled 37 digs in the two contests averaging 4.11 digs per set. West's top performance was a 25-dig outing on Friday to lift the Bulldogs to a five-set win. West also chipped in offensively, picking up a pair of aces and dishing out four assists in both matches.
McClinton, West, and the rest of the Bulldogs will return home to host Radford in back-to-back matches on Thursday and Friday. Thursday's contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. first serve, while Friday's is set to begin at 3 p.m. with both matches airing on ESPN+.
