03.07.2021 | Men's Tennis
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team hosted Chattanooga on a brisk Sunday afternoon, dropping the hotly-contested match 4-3.
Like Saturday, Asheville earned the doubles point with wins at the second and third flights, but Chattanooga was able to capture four of the singles matches.
Oli Nolan and Rafa Serra were dominant at the No. 2 doubles, cruising to a 6-0 win. After Charlie Morkel and Jon Brann Reid dropped a close decision (7-5), Leo Bierbaum and Harry Thursfield gutted out a 7-6 tiebreak win at the No. 3 doubles position.
Morkel fought tough at the No. 2 singles flight, but was bested in three sets. Thursfield had a similar fate, ultimately falling to Kerim Hyatt in three. Reid looked strong at the No. 4 singles spot, dropping just two points in a 6-0, 6-2 win. Bierbaum had a back and forth match at the No. 5 flight, and after dropping the first set 6-2, rallied to defeat Simon Labbe 7-5 in the second and held him off in the third set with a 7-6 tiebreak win to move to a perfect 6-0 in singles competition in 2021.
The Bulldogs will have a chance to rest, traveling to on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
