Gold’s strong round highlights day one of Low Country Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The UNC Asheville women's golf team opened up play at the Low Country Intercollegiate on Saturday, with Madyson Gold shooting a 1-over-par 73 to sit in a tie for fifth place overall.
As a team, Asheville sits in sixth place in a field of 16 heading into Sunday's final round of play, totaling 19-over-par in round one.
Gold was steady from the start, registering birdies on holes No. 2 and No. 16, parring 13 of 18 holes overall.
Amber Capote had a solid outing as well, firing a 4-over-par 76 to tie for 18th place, while Hailey Pendleton finished just one stroke behind, birdieing hole 14. Venecia Zaia and Phoebe Carles finished +9 and +10, respectively.
