Men’s basketball welcomes Chattanooga Wednesday night

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball will cap off its four-game home stand on Wednesday night, hosting the Chattanooga Mocs at 6:30 p.m. in Kimmel Arena.

Breaking Out
Tajion Jones had his biggest game of the season, scoring a season-high 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting while snagging 10 rebounds to record the first double-double of his career. The 10 boards were a career-high for the redshirt senior from Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the 23 points were the most since January 14, 2021 (25, vs. Charleston Southern).
Doc Solid
Junior Jamon Battle - who goes by "Doc" - has been a model of consistency this season, averaging 10.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Battle, who is often tasked with defending the opposition's top scorer, set career highs in points (19) and made 3-pointers (3-for-4) in the game against North Carolina.
Scouting the Mocs
Chattanooga has lived up to its billing as the preseason favorite in the Southern Conference thus far, with its only loss coming against College of Charleston (68-66). The Mocs continue to play solid defense and control the boards, ranking in the top 20 nationally in 3-point field goal defense, scoring defense, rebounding margin and scoring margin. David Jean-Baptiste has been the spark plug from deep, knocking down 28 treys on the season, while Malachi Smith leads the team with an average of 17.2 points per game.

UNC Asheville and Chattanooga have met nine times in their history, with the Mocs claiming all nine matchups. Six of the first eight matchups in the series were decided by eight points or less, with Chattanooga taking the November contest 75-45.
