Men’s basketball hosts Brevard Thursday for home opener

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball returns to Kimmel Thursday, hosting Brevard College at 6:30 p.m. for its 2021-22 home opener.

Home Sweet Home
Thursday night will mark the first time fans have been in attendance at Kimmel Arena since March 3, 2020 when the Bulldogs topped Campbell in the Big South Tournament First Round. In 2019-20, Asheville was 10-5 at home, going 6-4 last season without fans.
Blue Zoo
Thursday will also mark the debut of the "Blue Zoo" which will be UNC Asheville students dressed up and cheering on their Bulldogs! Additionally, several of the UNC Asheville athletics teams will be in attendance, as well as students from Asheville Middle School. Make sure you wear your Bulldog Blue!
Veterans Day
In the spirit of Veterans Day and honoring those who serve, all those who serve or have served our country will get in free with a military ID. Additionally, each Saturday home game all military will be admitted free as part of our "Salute to Service Saturday" initiative.
Last Time Out
Asheville opened up its season on Tuesday night at UAB, falling to the talented Blazers squad 102-77. The Bulldogs had some positive takeaways in their game against the Conference USA Preseason Favorite UAB squad, including shooting 47.4 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from 3-point range. LJ Thorpe led Asheville in scoring, with an efficient 7-for-13 shooting, 16-point performance. Drew Pember looked strong in his Bulldog debut, knocking down three 3-pointers in the first half to finish with 14 points.
Three-Point Threats
UNC Asheville boasts one of the top 3-point shooters in the country in Tajion Jones. Jones' average of 3.4 threes per game last season ranked sixth in Division I and was a new program record. Jones enters the season as the Big South's active leader in made 3-pointers (178), while teammate Coty Jude is second (175). Because of his resume, Jones was ranked fifth in the NCAA's top 10 returning 3-point shooters in November.
Scouting Brevard
The Tornados opened up their 2021-22 season on Saturday, falling at Oglethorpe 92-42. The high scorer for Brevard was Chancey Watson with seven points, while Paris Crawford totaled six with Charles Reed and LB Boyette totaling five points. The 2020-21 season was a very abbreviated one for the Tornados, playing just seven games and posting a record of 1-6.
Series History
UNC Asheville and Brevard have squared off eight times in their respective histories, with the Bulldogs going a perfect 8-0. The teams last met in November of 2019, with Asheville taking the matchup 79-49 behind Tajion Jones' 16 points.
