Golf splits day one action at Aggie Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team opened up play at the Aggie Invitational on Monday, going 1-1 in the match play format.
Asheville would get edged out by Western Carolina 3-2, but rebound and top North Carolina Central 4-1.
Phoebe Carles and Venecia Zaia were victorious in both of their matches of the day. Carles was able to secure a victory after 17 holes in the first round, going 3-up with just one hole to play. In her second match of the day, Carles' opponent was forced to withdraw due to injury. Zaia had a strong outing, claiming a 6-hole win in the first round and taking the second round by going 8-up with seven to play.
Madyson Gold fought hard in the first round, coming up just shy (2 & 1) but bouncing back to win nine of 10 holes in the second round of the day. Like Golf, Hailey Pendleton fell in round one (8 & 7), but claimed her second round of the day by being eight up with just six holes remaining.
