Zaia named Big South Women’s Golfer of the Week

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Big South announced that UNC Asheville's Venecia Zaia was named the Women's Golfer of the Week on Thursday.

Zaia helped re-write the UNC Asheville record books this week, carding the lowest individual round in Bulldog history, with a 4-under-par 67 in round one (Sunday) of the Edisto Island Invitational. The tournament, which was played on the par-71 Plantation Course, concluded Tuesday, with Zaia carding a 74 to tie in 15th place individually.

Zaia's 67, which broke Adelyn Deery's previous record of 70 (2018-19), also propelled UNC Asheville to its lowest team round ever (288), smashing the previous record of 297 which was recorded in the ECU Pirate Invitational in September.

The award is the second of its kind for Zaia, who was named Freshman of the Week in April.
