Cross Country Opens Spring Season at Winthrop

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville cross country teams will open their season on Friday when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Winthrop Adidas Invitational. The men's race will start things off at 2:30 p.m. with the women's race to follow at 3:30 p.m.
"I am excited about this opportunity for our cross country athletes to compete," said UNC Asheville Head Cross Country Coach Adam Puett. "Our men and women have worked very hard over the fall and winter months to prepare to be able to race. This Friday we have the opportunity to test ourselves against many of the programs in the Big South and this will give us some feedback on where we stand in the conference."
Speaking of the Big South, the conference released its annual preseason polls last week and Asheville's men's team was picked to finish fourth, while the women's squad was tabbed to place fifth. The preseason prediction for the Bulldogs is the same as their respective finishes at the 2019 Big South Cross Country Championships. It marked the fourth consecutive year that the men's team has finished fourth. With their fifth-place finish, the women have now finished in the top six in the Big South every year since 2012.
