ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming and diving team came away with a 154-72 victory over Converse Saturday morning as the program recognized its senior class. The victory not only closes out the seniors' careers with a win, but it also wraps up Asheville's regular season record at 4-1-1.
The Bulldogs were dominant Saturday as they logged the fastest time in all 14 events. The day's action was book ended by fast relay times put together from Asheville. The quartet of Nora Segurola Larrinaga, Mikaela Fullerton, Addison Wright, and Delaney Carlton teamed up to pace the field in the 200-yard medley relay. Closing out the day's events was the 200-yard freestyle relay, and the foursome of Larrinaga, Jessie Frank, Sammy Kershner, and Rachel Daly notched the top time, 1:41.58.
In the individual events, the Bulldogs saw 10 different swimmers account for the 12 event victories. Wright (100y fly, 200y back) and Anna Nabors (200y fly, 200y IM) won a pair of events. Kylie Johnson (500y free), Amelia Ham (200y breast), Larrinaga (100y free), Frank (50y free), Abby Parks (100y breast), Alexis Walker (100y back), Carlton (200y free), and Christina Marshall (100y IM) all placed first in their respective races against Converse as well.
Before Saturday's action began, the Bulldogs honored their four seniors: Megan Almond, Aleta Jewell, Skye Lewis, and Marshall. Furthermore, it was a reunion of sorts as two Bulldog alums coach Converse in Morgan Rulevich and Emma Nelson, so they got to see their former teammates close out their collegiate careers.
"My last dual meet as a collegiate athlete was a blast, per usual," said Marshall. "Competing with my teammates by my side is always so much fun, and I think I will miss that the most. I am so thankful to have met and known such beautiful people inside and out. Let's go kill it at conference ladies!"
Next up for Asheville is the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. The Championship meet will occur February 15-17 at the Liberty Natatorium in Lynchburg, Va. For more information on the Championship, click HERE.
