Swimming & Diving Hosts Converse Saturday in Home Finale

01.22.2021 | Women's Swimming & Diving

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming and diving team will wrap up its home schedule hosting Converse Saturday morning at the Justice Center Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and will air on ESPN+.

Last Time Out – Asheville came away with a 274.5-207.5 victory at Georgia Southern last weekend. With the win, the Bulldogs improve their dual meet record to 3-1-1 on the season.

Standout Performances – Several Bulldogs performed well against GSU, but the tandem of Delaney Carlton and Jade Canady stood out. Carlton won each of her four individual events (50y free, 100y free twice, 200y free) and helped the Bulldogs take the top spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay. These outings continue the outstanding sophomore campaign for Carlton as she has won all but one individual event that she has competed in this season.

Meanwhile, Canady finished second in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events after improving her point total in both the prelims and finals. In the 3-meter, Canady set new freshman and program records with 198.30 points before quickly breaking her record with 203.3 points in the finals.

Success in the Classroom – Earlier this week, the Bulldogs were selected as a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America team. Asheville, which held a 3.53 grade-point average as a team during the fall semester, has earned this distinction every semester it has been an official team, which covers the past 17 semesters.

Senior Sendoff – Saturday's meet will also serve as the team's senior day. The four seniors Megan Almond, Skye Lewis, Christina Marshall, and Aleta Jewell will be recognized before the meet gets underway. For Almond, she is the first graduate of the Bulldog diving program. In addition to the pre-meet recognition, Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins will also join the broadcast to talk about each senior during breaks in the action.

Preparing for Conference Championships - Saturday's tilt against Converse will be the final meet for the Bulldogs before the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. This year's Championship meet will occur on February 15-17 from the Liberty Natatorium in Lynchburg, Va. For more information on the Championship, click HERE.

How to Follow –
In addition to the ESPN+ broadcast, fans can also track results on the Meet Mobile app or follow the team's Twitter account for updates.
