Swimming & Diving Opens 2021 Traveling to Georgia Southern

01.15.2021 | Women's Swimming & Diving

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team will begin the 2021 portion of its schedule this weekend as it competes at Georgia Southern on Saturday and Sunday. The action will get underway at 12:30 p.m. each day.

Last Time Out – The last time the Bulldogs were in the pool was at the end of November at the TYR '85 Liberty Invitational. Overall, three school records fell over the course of the three-day meet to go along with multiple season-best and personal-best marks. Delaney Carlton broke program-best marks in the 50y free (23.07) and 100y free (50.91), while Jade Canady had a record-breaking outing in 3-meter diving with a point total of 192.60.

Coach's Take – "We are really looking forward to racing this weekend," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "With such a unique year, every time we do get to compete, we want to take advantage of the opportunity. For this reason, the meet will run 26 events over two days; that's a lot of racing and diving!"

Quick Look Forward – Asheville will return home on Jan. 22-23 and will hold senior day celebrations on each day. The diving celebration will take place at 4 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center in Asheville. The swimming senior day will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Justice Center Pool as the Bulldogs host Converse.

About Georgia Southern – The Eagles have competed in three meets so far this season against Campbell, Florida Gulf Coast, and FIU, but this will be the first time GSU has competed at home. Like Asheville, Georgia Southern will have one more meet after this weekend and then head to the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Swimming and Diving Championships in mid-February.

"Georgia Southern is sure to be a formidable opponent, and we are happy to be their first home competition of the 20-21 season," Lykins added.
