ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville's women's soccer coach Clifton Bush announced the signing of two student-athletes that will join the program for the 2020 season.
One signee is a high school player from Rhode Island, while the other is transferring in after playing her freshman season at Coastal Carolina.
Kaiya Boyd – Midfielder/Forward – 6-1 – Cranston, Rhode Island (LaSalle Academy)
Boyd was a part of two State Championship teams during her high school career. Over the course of her prep career, Boyd scored 21 goals and added 18 assists. As a senior, Boyd netted 11 goals to go along with five assists, which landed her First Team All-State honors. Boyd also played for the Bayside FC club team where she accumulated seven goals and 15 assists to help her team win a pair of State Cup Championships in 2018 and 2019.
Coach's Take – "Kaiya has an unlimited amount of growth potential and raw talent, she really impressed at our elite camp," said Bush. "After just a few conversations with Kaiya and her family, it became clear this was a great fit for us all. As a gritty, athletic goal scorer who can play multiple positions, Kayia will really add another dimension to our attacking group. Kaiya should fit in well with our desired style of play and we can't wait to get her here and get to work."
Boyd on joining the Bulldogs - I first fell in love with the state from having several soccer tournaments in North Carolina over the years," said Boyd. "Visiting Asheville and meeting the amazing coaching staff sealed the deal. I can't wait to get started!"
Lindie Clark – Midfielder – 5-9 – Mauldin, S.C. (Coastal Carolina)
Prior to enrolling at Coastal Carolina, Clark tallied 145 points with 63 goals and 19 assists throughout high school career. She was a four-time All-Region, a three-time team captain, a Hillcrest High Pre-Season Tournament All-Tournament team member. Clark was also named Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Regional Player of the Year, All-State, Greenville News All-Upstate team as a junior.
In her lone season with Coastal Carolina, Clark appeared in nine matches and logged 373 minutes of playing time. Overall, Clark totaled five shot attempts, started two matches and one shot on goal in her lone collegiate season.
Coach's Take - "We are very excited to add a player of Lindie's abilities and work ethic to our program," said Bush "She's coming to us having gained many of the necessary attributes to really impact our team on the field and in the locker room. Add to that, she is very vocal and spent time in a great youth environment at CESA. We can't wait to begin working with Linde and see her grow and impact this program."
Clark on joining the Bulldogs – "I can't wait to transfer to UNC Asheville, and the Big South Conference, to continue my academic and athletic career," Clark said. "I feel like the school and the city are a great match for me. I am so grateful to Coach Clifton Bush, Coach Molly, and Coach Davis for giving me this opportunity and can't wait to meet all of the girls and get started!"
