Bulldogs Shine in Weekend Meet at VMI

LEXINGTON, VA. – UNC Asheville track and field finished the two-day VMI Indoor Classic Saturday with some phenomenal finishes in multiple events throughout the meet.
The Bulldogs put on a show in the men's shot put as UNC Asheville had two finish in the top five and three in the top 10. Dominique Partridge earned a third place finish with a throw of 14.87 meters while Jack Choiniere was slightly behind his teammate with a throw of 14.85 meters. Solomon McDonald claimed a seventh place finish with a throw of 14.37 meters. UNC Asheville was the only school to have more than one top five finisher and more than two finish in the top 10 in the event.
UNC Asheville earned a third place finish in the men's 4x400 relay as the quartet of Tyree McFalling, Joel Bowers, Bryson Riddick and Isaac Teasley ran a time of 3:18.19 that was just six seconds off from the lead.
In the women's 4x400 relay, UNC Asheville earned an eighth place finish with Raven Thurman, Desire Brown, Khadeesha Crumbly and Alyx Evans finished with a time 3:57.40.
Madeline Nichols earned a top 10 finish in the women's one mile run as the sophomore finished in ninth place with a time of 5:09.95.
Akin Williams earned a fifth place finish in the men's 60 meter with a time of 6.92.
Alyx Evans was four seconds away from a first place finish in the women's 800 meter as she finished fifth with a time of 2:16.57.
Isaac Teasley was less than a second away from a first place finish in the men's 200 meter as the freshman finished sixth in an extremely race with a time of 22.14.
Kindra Mingo competed in the women's 200 meter for the Bulldogs as she finished in 10th place with a time of 25.65.
Claudia Prieto secured an eighth place finish in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.46 meters.
John Ciprich ran a time of 8:53.91 in the men's 3000 meter which was good enough for an eleventh place finish in an event that fielded 44 competitors.
In the women's 3000 meter, India Appleton finished in sixth place with a time of 10:40.07 while Morgan Costelloe earned a 12th place finish with a time of 10:51.10.
UNC Asheville will be back in action at the Big South Championships in Blacksburg, Va., Feb. 28-29.
