Lani Woods' path to UNCA had twists, turns, but she feels right at home close to home

The road to getting a Division I scholarship to play women's basketball can often be a long and bumpy one.
Former North Buncombe standout Lani Woods' road was a lot bumpier than most, and that was before COVID-19 hit this past spring. But thanks to a commitment from UNC Asheville, Lani's journey to play Division I basketball didn't take her too far away from home.
She made her collegiate debut Sunday in UNC Asheville's third game of the season. Woods played eight minutes and grabbed two rebounds in the Bulldogs' 76-50 loss to Wofford at Kimmel Arena.
Woods enjoyed success at two area high schools and unfortunately was an innocent bystander in one of the more bizarre happenings at another high school during her high school career.
